Basic Food Program (SNAP)
Eligibility: Immigrants who meet specific program rules under the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) may be eligible for food benefits. Additionally, the state-funded Food Assistance Program (FAP) provides food assistance to legal immigrants who aren’t eligible for federal Basic Food benefits solely because of their immigration status.

Public Charge Considerations
Using food assistance programs like Basic Food (SNAP) or state-funded Food Assistance Program (FAP) does not negatively impact immigration status under the public charge rule. Immigrants can safely use these benefits without affecting their immigration applications.
